Microsoft plans to introduce new Surface devices at the end of March. Sources familiar with the plans said the company will unveil the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 aimed at business and commercial customers on March 21. She calls them AI PCs.
The devices will be powered by new processors based on Intel Core Ultra or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, which are equipped with the latest Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to enhance AI capabilities. They are said to be roughly equivalent to the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro in terms of efficiency and performance, reports Engadget.
Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are expected to be among the first devices to support future AI features in Windows 11. Along with on-device Copilot support, these features will include live captions and real-time translations, zooming and upscaling for games, updated Windows Studio effects, and something called (at least for now) AI Explorer.
The latter feature could be what differentiates computers with artificial intelligence from regular ones. AI Explorer will obviously work in any application and will allow you to search documents, web pages, images and chats using natural language. This feature is said to create a history of everything you do on your computer and make it searchable. The tool is able to understand context and suggest tasks based on what is displayed on the screen. AI Explorer is also expected to support text-based image editing. These AI features will likely arrive as part of the 24H2 update for Windows 11, which will be released this fall.
As for what else to expect from Microsoft's next laptops, both are said to offer all-day battery life. It is planned that the Surface Pro 10 will have an OLED screen with anti-glare coating and HDR support. Rumor has it that it will have an ultra-wide-angle webcam on the front and an NFC reader.
It is believed that the Surface Laptop 6 will receive a more significant redesign compared to its predecessors. In addition to thinner bezels and rounded corners, it is expected to have a haptic touchpad, a dedicated Copilot key, and an updated array of ports. It will also be the first Surface Laptop to feature an Arm processor (in addition to Intel models). The Intel-powered versions of the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 will likely begin shipping in April, with the Snapdragon-powered versions expected to ship in June.
