Polish developer 11 bit studios today released a first gameplay trailer for its upcoming emotional sci-fi game “The Alter”. The gameplay trailer for “The Alter” shows a first look at Jan Dolski's search for the answer to the most frequently asked question in human history: What if?
Inspired by the critically acclaimed title “This War of Mine,” “The Alter” plunges players into a heart-wrenching battle for survival that Jan cannot handle alone. After crash-landing on a desolate planet with a glowing star, Jan must escape the grueling conditions by taking refuge in a state-of-the-art mobile base. The only problem? It is supposed to be operated by an experienced team and he is all alone.
Luckily, fate takes a turn with the discovery of Rapidium, a mysterious substance unique to this dangerous world. Interacting with the quantum computer aboard the mobile base allows Jan to manipulate key decisions from his past and create alternate versions of himself, known as “alters”, which have the potential to change everything.
The Alter are indispensable allies and possess various abilities critical to repairing the base, maintaining life, crafting essential tools, and mining valuable resources. But they are also more than just taskbots, as each of them acts like a sentient being with unique emotions, goals and even a pinch of existential doubt. Even though this opens the door to chaos, their collective goal remains the same: survive, escape, and do it all together.
The Alter will be released later this year for Windows 11 PC and consoles.
