As of December 2023, cybercriminals are using fake websites to advertise popular software such as Google Meet, Skype and Zoom through which they deliver a range of malware targeting Android and Windows users, such as SpyNote RAT for Android platforms and NJRAT and DCRat for Windows systems , Zscaler researchers warned.
All fake sites are in Russian and are hosted on domains that are very similar to legitimate ones. These sites offer options for downloading apps for Android, iOS and Windows platforms.
There is currently no evidence that iOS users are at risk, given that there is also a button for the iOS application on the sites, but it leads users to Skype in the Apple App Store.
Attackers use these sites as decoys to distribute RATs for Android and Windows, which can steal confidential information, log keystrokes and steal files, the researchers said.
