The Digital Markets Act drawn up by the European Union forced Apple to make some important changes to its products. After the possibility of installing third-party application stores, the company will have to launch a tool for migrating data between the iPhone and Android.
It is already known that the North American technology company is working on this project. This information is contained in a document published by the company itself which clarifies all the changes it will have to make to comply with European legislation.
Tool to migrate data from iPhone to Android arrives by 2025
Apple reveals that this tool will need to be released by the end of 2025. It describes it as “a solution that helps mobile operating system vendors develop easier-to-use solutions for transferring data from an iPhone to a phone that doesn't whether it's from Apple.”
The details of this new tool are not yet public, especially because Apple has not yet completed its development. However, it states that it will be developed based on data transfer tools developed by other companies.
In this sense, it is important to talk about the tool that Google has to help iPhone users migrate to Android. This allows the transfer of data such as contacts, photos and videos, free applications or notes.
Still, not all data can be transferred, namely iMessage messages or Safari bookmarks. It is therefore expected that Apple's tool can overcome these flaws.
Soon you will also be able to switch from Safari to another browser
Under the Digital Markets Law, Apple will also have to give users freedom to choose their browser. To do this, it will allow you to uninstall Safari on the iPhone.
The North American company will offer a “browser switching solution” for transferring data on the same device. Something that will have to be launched by the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.
Something that is not clear is the scope of these changes. In other words, it is not yet known whether these new features will be exclusive to the European Union or whether they could reach other markets.
