It was in 1977 when Star Wars appeared in movie theaters around the world and the film industry changed forever. George Lucas set a precedent with his science fiction fantasy and he achieved it, among other reasons, thanks to having a marvel like John Williams at the controls of the soundtrack.
The American composer's songs are absolutely legendary and remain in the memory of any fan of the saga. Furthermore, its diffusion has been total in the form of video games, spin-offs and all kinds of products, but no one saw the current popularity of the saga coming decades ago. And that is why the details of the future plot were not so established.
As we well know, one of the most powerful plot twists of the original trilogy was the revelation that Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa were siblings. We were able to discover it in Return of the Jedi and that was even more surprising considering the displays of affection, including kisses, that both characters had had in the previous films. It caught many off guard in 1983, but six years earlier Williams himself had no idea about that detail.
George Lucas opted for the family relationship much later than A New Hope, so when the musician shaped the scores he thought they could be a couple. This is how he told it in an interview in Variety:
“I mistakenly wrote a love theme for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. I later found out they were brothers, so it was an incestuous idea to have a love theme for them. But George never told us there was going to be a second movie.” .
That song didn't make the final cut.although there is a piece dedicated to the brothers for the film that closed the classic installments, no longer motivated to suggest a love between the two.
