Users of the social network X, authorized as employees of verified organizations, as well as paid subscribers with the Premium+ tariff plan, received access to a new feature – publishing “Articles” (Articles). It allows you to make very long posts.
The feature offers a basic interface for editing text, including tools for inserting media files and text formatting tools: bold, italics, strikethrough text, subheadings, and bulleted and numbered lists. An article in the new format can be longer than 25,000 characters – this is the limit set for the long publication format available to subscribers of the basic Premium plan. Engadget journalists conducted a “stress test” and reached a limit of just over 100,000 characters, or about 15,000 words.
The platform, which was formerly called Twitter, began working on long-form posts even before Elon Musk bought the company, showing off the first version of Notes in 2022. Last summer, the social network's new owner confirmed that the feature was still in development. It is noteworthy that Musk does not always act friendly towards journalists: he previously removed links from X to external resources from headlines; the headlines subsequently returned to the platform, but became less noticeable.
