Even though the first part of Megamind initially flew under the radar when it was released in 2010, the animated adventure has developed into one of DreamWorks' most popular family films over the years. It was also received positively by critics at the time of publication (73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes).
The direct sequel to the popular DreamWorks classic has now appeared on the streaming platform Peacock, almost 14 years later. After the return of the Doom Syndicate team, former villain Megamind must keep up appearances in “Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate” until he can rally his friends and stop his old team from taking Metro City to the moon. However, the sequel is not as well received by viewers as its predecessor, on the contrary.
Megamind 2 – One of the worst films of all time?
Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate was released on the streaming platform Peacock on March 1st and has not appeared in a good light since then. The film currently has a rating on Rotten Tomatoes Rating of 0 percent, it couldn't be worse. To be fair, however, it must be said that so far (as of March 8, 2024) only nine reviews have been submitted.
However, if you take a look at the viewers' reviews, you will find significantly more reviews. Unfortunately, even with over 500 audience votes (as of March 8, 2024), the film only manages one Audience rating of 6 percent. This means that the animated film is not only far behind its predecessor, but is also among the 100 worst-rated films of all time.
Among other things, the cast of voice actors is criticized, which has been completely replaced compared to the first part. The animation and character design were also negatively mentioned in audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. For everyone who still wants to get an idea of the DreamWorks title for themselves, here is the current trailer:
