FromSoftware has thirty years of activity, however the Tokyo studio has achieved global success only with souls, a trend inaugurated by Demon's Souls in 2009 and evolved up to Elden Ring in 2022. In between, there were Dark Souls, Sekiro and Bloodborne, but have you ever wondered which is the absolute best seller?
If the answer is yes, then you have come to the right place. Without too many mincing words, the best-selling souls ever is by far Elden Ring, whose massive success even caught FromSoftware itself off guard. The latest official data dates back to February 2024 and speaks well 23 million copies distributed worldwide. The number includes all editions of the game, therefore PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series In all likelihood, the figure is destined to increase further in the coming months under the pressure of the launch of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, set for June 21, 2024 on the same platforms mentioned above.
And how much did the other souls sell? As for Dark Souls, the last official update dates back to March 2020, when Bandai Namco declared 10 million units distributed for Dark Souls 3 and 27 million taking into account the entire series. Since then the real numbers may have grown further, but we don't believe to the point that they could worry Elden Ring. Regarding Bloodborne, we are in possession of extremely old numbers: we know that it sold one million copies in the first month of marketing, which then became two million in September 2015, but since then Sony has not provided further official numbers, even if the data the most recent ones that emerged from the Insomniac leak speak of over 7 million copies sold. Finally, thanks to Activision-Blizzard we know for sure that Sekiro Shadows Die Twice reached 10 million copies in September 2023.
