Now monitors and TVs need to have at least 144 Hz.
AMD has raised the requirements for screens that claim to support FreeSync technology. Previously, such a certificate could be obtained by screens that support a 60 Hz refresh rate.
As AMD explains, since 2015, when FreeSync technology appeared, technology has stepped forward and a screen with a 60 Hz refresh rate will no longer surprise anyone.
Now, to certify FreeSync support, a laptop or TV screen must have a horizontal resolution of no more than 3440 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. For laptops, 40-60 Hz is sufficient.
At the same time, the requirements for screens for certification at the FreeSync Premium and FreeSync Premium Pro levels were raised. AMD FreeSync HDR support will now be required to achieve the maximum level of certification.
Devices already certified to support FreeSync will continue to be supported by AMD. According to the company’s calculations, more than 4 thousand devices have received certificates over the entire period.
FreeSync is a technology for adaptive synchronization of the screen refresh rate with the frame refresh rate of the displayed content. This synchronization avoids visible image tearing.
