In addition to fearsome monsters and intense action, the upcoming “Dragon's Dogma 2” also has some cooking scenes to offer. As the game's director has now revealed, the food in the game is cooked in live-action sequences.
“Dragon's Dogma 2” will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in a few days. Before the role-playing game is released on March 22nd, it is already said the character editor is availablewith which you can create your own hero before the game starts.
The responsible developers at Capcom are currently on a promotional tour and are answering the most burning questions about the upcoming fantasy game. Among other things, the question of the cooking sequences in the game was clarified. The incredibly delicious scenes were not created with in-game graphics, but are real cooking videos in which players can watch meat sizzle in live action.
Money was better spent on good meat than on CGI
After the players have fought with their heroes against nasty monsters and explored the area, they can relax around the campfire in the evening and prepare a strengthening meal. During their previews of “Dragon's Dogma 2”, some colleagues from other websites commented on how great the cooking scenes were and wondered how Capcom managed to achieve the incredibly realistic and tasty looking graphics.
In an interview with Japanese website 4Gamer, Hideaki Itsuno, the game's director, stated that the cooking videos were actually real clips of meat cooking. “The meat being grilled in the camp is a live-action (video),” Itsuno said in the interview. “For several months we had been having a meeting with the camping enthusiasts on our team about what was so interesting about camping, and one of them said, You can look at as many pictures of people grilling meat as you can want. That led to it being included in the game.”
“We could have depicted the flesh with CG,” Itsuno continued. “But we decided we would rather invest the money in good meat. This is how it came to its current form. Every type of meat you get in the game looks different when it's grilled.” What cooking looks like in “Dragon's Dogma 2” can be seen in the following video from colleagues at TheGamer starting at around 3 minutes 30 seconds examine:
