Based on Unreal Engine 5.3, MAWI United has published a sneak peek at the technology demonstration of a European birch forest. The tech demo is from the same team and environment as the jungle and desert we recently featured. The team is now turning its attention to a European scenario. As a pioneer plant, the fast-growing birch trees can be found almost everywhere in Europe.

MAWI United uses the tech demos in Unreal Engine 5 to promote their assets in the Unreal Engine store. Among other things, you will find the Meadow Forest Trees Biome, which developers can license for $400. In the asset descriptions you will also find details about the implementation of the different biomes. The Meadow Forest Trees Biome supports nanites, generates a procedural environment from 170 photogrammetry plants and trees, and is interactive. Trees have up to 1 million triangles; Plants, rocks and stones up to 40,000 triangles.

MAWI United recommends at least a Geforce RTX 3000 for the tech demos, but it goes without saying that expensive hardware can be used for such graphics finesse. A Geforce RTX 4090 does this best if you are willing to make this investment. The cheapest Geforce RTX 4090 is currently changing hands for just under 1,800 euros. Unfortunately, the tech demo itself is currently not available to try out for free as a download. Other demos were offered for download for a fee, but the Birkenwald isn't there yet. Until then, the video will have to suffice.
