This will make them more convenient to use at Supercharger charging stations.
Over the past year, major automakers have actively joined the initiative to switch to the NACS charging port, originally proposed by Tesla, to allow car owners to charge at branded Supercharger stations, even if their electric vehicle is not a Tesla brand. The Electrek resource reports that Tesla has already begun distributing recommendations not only for users of charging stations, but also for automakers, taking into account the specifics of the design of their electric vehicle charging points.

Car owners whose cars are equipped with charging ports in the left front fender, for example, are allowed to stand at charging stations longitudinally, but past the marking lines, but standing across (in the illustration on the right) is not recommended, as well as diagonally. According to Tesla, its newest charging stations are designed in such a way that the charging cable will be long enough for any model of electric vehicle. Moreover, it calls on automakers to place charging ports either on the rear left side of both the Tesla itself and in the area of the right front fender. This will optimize the placement of electric vehicles at old-style charging stations.
Finally, Tesla says it is working on an extension cable for NACS ports that can be purchased separately and, if necessary, used to connect to proprietary charging stations where the standard cable is not long enough.
