Growth has accelerated since the conflict in Ukraine intensified, and this is not surprising.
Today, the Telegram messenger not only allows you to keep in touch with friends, relatives and colleagues, but also to receive information quickly, from different points of view, and often first-hand. At the beginning of 2021, the messenger's audience was 500 million users, and today it has already reached 900 million. The founder of the messenger and the company of the same name, Pavel Durov, shared the relevant information in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).
Durov did not go into detail about why and how this happened, but we believe it is not difficult to guess that the explosive growth in Telegram’s popularity began after the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine at the end of winter 2022, when it escalated into a direct military clash with Russia. It is through Telegram, or rather, through the numerous information channels created in it, that users from various countries can receive information about how things really are not only in the Ukrainian crisis zone, but also in the world as a whole. Telegram today, and this will not be an exaggeration, is the freest messenger that allows you to voice (and study) different points of view.
In any case, Pavel Durov's case is developing, and, according to his comments to the FT, he admits the possibility of an initial public offering (IPO) of Telegram, which investors value at thirty billion dollars. However, the entrepreneur does not intend to sell Telegram, since in this case the platform will lose its independence and, as a result, its entire meaning as such.
