PCGH regularly asks its readers how much money they spend on graphics cards. If you compare the results from 2021 with 2013, a somewhat frightening picture emerges. In 2013 there were products like the GTX 760, 770 or 780, which ranged between 240 and 650 euros. AMD was on the market with the R7 and R9-2xx series and mostly served price ranges between 199 and 550 euros.
Comparison between 2013 and 2021
If you look back a little more than ten years at the 2013 survey, the question of how much money PCGH users spend on graphics cards shows a completely different picture than today. In 2013 there were eight price categories up to the 300 euro category, which were diligently filled out. Graphics cards for under 50 euros almost make you wonder what that means. In 2013, 49 percent, almost half of the participants, said that they spent up to 300 euros on a graphics card. In 2021, just eight years later, the proportion was only 10 percent.
Graphics card expenses
77 percent of survey participants, and therefore the vast majority, spent up to 450 euros in 2013. In this price range there was only a minority of a good third in 2021. The most expensive category in 2013 was “more than 550 euros”. In 2021, the majority of expenses are above this mark; the most expensive category was “more than 1,600 euros”; This group was already relatively large at just under 8 percent and has grown significantly since then thanks to successful product releases such as the Geforce RTX 4090. In 2013, the “golden mean” was around 300 euros, in 2021 it was already 600 euros – that's a smooth doubling.

The question remains: What will the situation look like in 2024? Are there any changes due to the current line-up from Nvidia and AMD, some of which only start at 300 euros? And does Intel have a chance in the survey, which is the only one that addresses the market under 300 euros? Take part in our new survey.
