In a recent interview given to Seven Sharp, a New Zealand broadcast, Miriam Margolyes, an actress who played – among other things – the role of Professor Pomona Sprite in the Harry Potter film sagaspoke about his relationship with the series and with its fans.
Miriam Margolyes to Harry Potter fans: “I'm worried about your obsession”
In an exchange with the presenter, Margolyes – who also spoke about other projects in which she participated such as Doctor Who and Blackadder (a sitcom with Hugh Laurie and Rowan Atkinson – talked about how she feels a little uncomfortable at the thought of fans of the boy wizard created by JK Rowling. Many, he also states, would have been burned by Cursed Child.
In the interview clip you find below, Margolyes was asked to compare Blackadder and Wizarding World fandoms. After an initial joke, the actress admitted that she was amazed by how many people – now grown up – retain so much interest in a product designed and intended for children, at least originally.
“They should have gotten over it. It's stuff from 25 years ago and was intended for children. At least, I think it was. Instead they seem stuck on it. Some even have themed weddings and I do I can't help but wonder what their wedding night will be like, at this point. I can't even think about it. Don't get me wrong: Harry Potter is fantastic and I'm grateful to have been a part of it, but it's over.” The full interview is available in the video below.
It may be over for Margolyes, certainly not for Warner Bros. The company led by David Zaslav is intent on producing a new adaptation. After the film saga, it is now the turn of the TV series which will be broadcast on HBO Max from 2026.
