The most coveted statuette of the night has been awarded. Al Pacino thought of saying it: Oppenheimer is the best film of 2023. After the awards to Christopher Nolan as best director, to Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy (best supporting actor and best leading actor respectively), now the director can also raise the most desired award at the 2024 Oscars. Nothing to be done for Barbie, stuck at the post with only one award (best original song to Billie Eilish for What Was I Made For). The toll booth therefore scores 7 to 1 for Nolan. The success achieved at the Golden Globes was repeated.
Oscar 2024: here are other moments of the evening
Best Film and Best Director, therefore. Christopher Nolan definitively closes Barbenheimer, the long-distance challenge with Greta Gerwig. The film also fails in terms of performances. Gosling hands over the scepter to Robert Downey Jr. The former Ironman fulfills his dream and after three nominations wins his coveted statue (he also leaves behind that sacred monster De Niro). Murphy encountered less resistance in the race for best actor in leading role.
The best actresses of the evening, however, were identified as Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers, supporting role) and Emma Stone (Poor Creature, Leading Role).
Among the various prizes awarded during the night between 10 and 11 March, we must certainly remember the Oscar for best animated film which went to The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki. The director wins his third career Oscar. The first time in 2003 with The Enchanted City. Moments of hilarity with John Cena.
The tribute with a touch of Italian style at the Dolby Arena is touching. In the usual tribute to deceased artists, Andrea Bocelli accompanied by his son Matteo, sings Con Te Partirò/Time to Say Goodbye.
The ceremony was broadcast on Rai 1 and on Ray Play in streaming.
