The Izvestia publication, citing industry experts, warns of a possible increase in prices for digital versions of video games in Russia. It is reported that the price increase will be on average 20%.
The predicted price increase is associated with adjustments in the Turkish region, which is popular among players, retailers and intermediaries from Russia, where after a recent rise in price the cost of new products exceeded 3,000 liras.
For example, the “champion” edition of F1 24 in the Turkish PS Store is sold for 3,600 liras (10.1 thousand rubles). Izvestia’s retail source believes that in Russian retail the digital version will cost about 15–17 thousand rubles.
According to Izvestia’s source, at one of the large Russian retailers, the rise in price will primarily affect digital copies, which sellers purchase before discs are imported by parallel import from other countries.
Market participants expect that prices will rise before the end of spring, and offer Russian gamers two options: buy games abroad on their own or wait for retail editions to be imported to Russia.
As for prices for disc versions of games, neither Ozon nor M.Video-Eldorado expect a sharp increase in prices: prices for physical media “remain stable in all countries.”
Emma Yusova, executive director of the online game development school XYZ School, concluded that the games market is able to adapt to changes in order to find new ways of development and offer innovative solutions to consumers.
