It could be part of the numerous Live-Services canceled by Sony Interactive Entertainment in recent months. What Insomniac Games was apparently working on could have been a multiplayer component of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 with live-service elements. Judging by the images – which someone uploaded to a video host platform, then taken up by Insider Gaming – what we would have had in front of us should have been an experience for 5 players at the same time. Each a different version of the wall climber (in the video we see Ghost-Spider, Spider-Man 2099, Ben Reilly, Spider-Man with symbiote and Miles Morales). Among the threats to be fought, the Sinister-Six are mentioned and shown.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2: The Great Web. Be Great Together. Multiplayer will never see the light of day
From the looks of things – but it's difficult to judge – the work must have already been well underway. The film, in fact, unlike those circulated regarding Wolverine, does not appear to be a WIP for internal use only, but appears more like a real trailer ready for publication. If it were not known that the project had now been discarded, there would be doubt that we were dealing with an anticipation rather than a 'recovery'. Last summer, the company said it wasn't working on a co-op mode. Although it seemed obvious at the time, today we realize that perhaps the statement was intended specifically to refer to the story mode.
Instead, nothing to do. The Insomniac game, mind you, sold very well. Sony is satisfied with the results achieved. Furthermore, a few days ago, the latest updates were distributed which introduced the NG+ and which even made us think of a possible DLC (as was the case with the first game).
In any case, the bleeding of information from Insomniac Games seems far from stopping. Even before the launch, someone in possession of the review codes thought it best to spread several spoilers online. Then, following a hacker attack, some behind-the-scenes information about the studio's intentions and ongoing projects emerged. In addition to the aforementioned film of Wolverine, the timetables of the next games that the company intends to make were found.
