The game will be made in Boston so as not to compete with Europe for employees.
CD Projekt begins development of a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077: the game will be developed by a new studio in Boston, headed by veterans of the first part. In an interview with Stephen Totilo, development director Gabe Amatangelo talked about finishing Cyberpunk 2077 and creating a sequel.
The release version of Cyberpunk 2077 was not very successful, but the developers are very pleased with the quality of the Phantom Liberty add-on. The goal of the Cyberpunk 2 team is to repeat the success of Phantom Liberty, and not the initial failure of the first game. When creating Phantom Liberty, Gabe wanted side quests to be more closely related to the main storyline of the add-on and better complement it. Apparently, something similar will be in Cyberpunk 2. Having taken over the leadership of the development of Cyberpunk 2077, Amatangelo reduced the level of control: the developers became freer, managers no longer checked every little detail. One of the reasons for the success of the add-on is its development by teams consisting of representatives of different departments Typically, quest writers must send a request to artists if they need some content, but if the quest team has a writer and an artist, the process is accelerated. The developers could not avoid overtime, but they cheated: if an employee worked 50-60 hours a week, then then he was allowed to work 20-30 hours a week. CD Projekt opened a new studio in Boston so that it would not compete for personnel with the company's Polish offices. CD Projekt expects that the Boston office will attract developers who want to work in the company, but do not intend to move to Europe. Formally, support for Cyberpunk 2077 has been completed, in fact – as it turns out. If the developers realize that they need to add something to the game, they will do it.
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 does not yet have a release date or release window. The game is in the early stages of development, most likely it will be released closer to 2030.
