According to what emerged from some documents, SNK has reportedly partnered with Japanese studio Arika to give life to a new project and bring a famous IP of the company back to the market. And be careful, this is not a fighting game.
SNK refers generically to a game from the library of over 200 developed titles, including Neo Geo games, the only detail is that it's not a fighting game. This therefore excludes franchises already known and recently returned to our screens such as The King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown but also Garou, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, The Last Blade and many other historical series linked to the world of fighting games.
So… could Metal Slug be the mystery game? It could, considering that SNK had attempted a relaunch with some projects which however seem to have been lost (think of Metal Slug Tactics or Metal Slug Code J) and although Metal Slug's hypothesis is a fascinating one, it is certainly not the only one to take into consideration.
SNK may have decided to revive the football series Super Sidekicks or maybe the shooter Last Resort, just to mention two of the company's titles not related to the fighting game genre. Will we know more during 2024? We hope so.
