A leaked trailer for “Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web” apparently gives a glimpse of the canceled live online adaptation of the superhero series from Insomniac Games.
Insomniac Games was once working on a multiplayer game in the “Marvel's Spider-Man” universe. Development stopped long ago. However, one reveals According to reports leaked trailer roughly shows what the studio had in mind for the multiplayer title.
“Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web” was originally intended to be developed as a live service game with a five-person multiplayer concept. The plan was for players to fight the “Sinister Six” in New York City.
“Better off” with a few friends
The game would have featured a multiverse model (possibly inspired by Scarlet Witch) as well as extensive character customization options.
In the leaked trailer can be heard: “New York City. There is nothing in the world that I wouldn't do for this big, beautiful apple (Big Apple, the city's nickname). One moment you're scarfing down a piece of Vinnie's, the next you're trying to stop a supervillain from breaking out of jail.”
Continuing: “Sometimes you can make it as a lone wolf, but you're better off with a few friends. I've seen the Sinister Six before… but never so methodically – so brutally. I don't think I'll be enough this time, guys. But together we could do it.”
The trailer for “Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web” is basically similar to what players are used to from the single-player adventures. However, the gameplay would have been different due to the multiplayer component.
The narrator is Yuri Lowenthal, who lends his voice to Peter Parker. And the trailer gives the impression that it was ready for an official release. But that won't happen.
Insomniac Games announced at the end of 2023that “Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web” will not be released and development has long been off the table.
Would the title have been a success? Superhero outings with co-op components have faced challenges recently, with both “Gotham Knights” and “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” falling short of expectations. “Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web” might have done more damage to the brand.
Further reports on the topic:
Fans can definitely expect another classic part of the “Marvel's Spider-Man” series. Insomniac Games is also working on it “Marvel's Wolverine” for the PS5.
