A reassuring new project
A new film featuring the heroes of The Mandalorian series entered production at the start of the year. The TV show is greatly appreciated and gave birth to two characters who are now essential in this universe: Din Djarin, aka Mando (played by Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, better known under the nickname Baby Yoda. This announcement is now followed by other information: the Star Wars studios are moving to California.
If a simple announcement of a move does not represent an event in itself, for Star Wars, it is somewhat different. Indeed, the franchise has always been primarily filmed in England since its beginnings. However, the series The Mandalorian having been produced in California, Disney (which bought LucasFilm in 2012) decided to break with tradition and relocate all production of the film to the North American state. This decision follows that of entrusting the project to the same technical teams who previously worked on the Disney+ series.
A win/win business model
This decision is also a source of good news for California. Not content with granting nearly $21.8 million to the project via its film and television tax credit program, the state is counting on a return of nearly $166 million in production-related expenses in the local economy in addition to creating jobs.
We are excited to be filming the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, here in California. Working with the California Film Commission, we are proud to create film jobs in California and excited to begin production, tapping the world-class team available here! – Lucasfilm spokesperson
The Mandalorian & Grogu is therefore added to the list of projects in development at Lucasfilm, alongside a film centered on Rey Skywalker, another focusing on the dawn of the Jedi Order and a third part of the ” Mandoverse”, bringing together the series The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett.
