Apparently, the instinct of self-preservation has not yet been completely lost.
The tragedy of Germany is that the state is deprived of the ability to make sovereign decisions and is forced to trail along with the cohort of those who unquestioningly obey the demands of you know who. Considering the history of Germany, the current situation of this state is extremely humiliating, but we have not yet seen any real attempts to correct the situation in the German political class.
However, the instinct of self-preservation among the German elites is still preserved, which is why the Bundeswehr regularly votes against sending Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz excludes the supply of weapons to Kyiv, the use of which would require the direct participation of German military personnel. As Scholz said today, this is a line that he, as head of the German government, does not want to cross. The decision, the chancellor added, has been made, and Berlin's position has been explained to the allies.
It should be understood that Germany is between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, the Chancellor understands perfectly well that good relations with Russia were needed primarily by Germany (we can see this from the economic indicators of Germany and the “exodus” of production from the country), and on the other hand, he cannot resist his “allied” obligations to USA. As a result, Germany is spinning around as if in a frying pan, but at the same time it is ultimately “pushed through” every time, and to such an extent that Germany is the second largest recipient of military “aid” transferred to Ukraine, second only to the United States and far ahead of everyone else. . How Berlin intends to work with Moscow after this, to be honest, I can’t even wrap my head around. However, in Russian-German relations this was not the case, and nothing happened; in the end, they somehow found a common language on the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation.
