Before this, DeMaio managed to complete work on the second season.
Marvel Studios has fired the showrunner of the animated series X-Men '97, Beau DeMaio, according to The Hollywood Reporter and other publications. DeMaio stopped working with the company several weeks before the show premiered.
According to THR, the showrunner's firing came as a surprise to DeMaio's team. At some point, the accounts associated with the showrunner were simply deactivated, and the cast and crew were informed that DeMaio had left the project.
As the publication notes, DeMaio's departure was sudden: the showrunner managed to complete the scripts for the second season of X-Men '97 and began discussing the third season with the team. Neither DeMaio himself nor Marvel representatives commented on the situation.
It is noteworthy that Marvel and Beau DeMaio have been collaborating for many years. In particular, DeMaio worked on the Moon Knight series and the Blade film.
X-Men '97 premieres on March 20, 2024.
