If we talk about Capcom and Beat 'em up you automatically think of Street Fighter, but the Osaka company has produced many games of this genre throughout its history. The series comes to mind Darkstalkers o Rival Schoolsbut in 1999 it was also the turn of a different work than usual: Power Stone.
Initially published in arcades and shortly afterwards also on DreamcastPower Stone offered a different approach to gameplay than what Capcom had already done with its other franchises. Set in an entirely 3D manner, fighters could move freely on the battlefield fighting not only with their own techniques but also with various blunt objects scattered throughout the scenario: theenvironmental interactivity therefore had a central role in the gameplay, without forgetting the collection of Power Stones which appeared randomly in the arena which, once collected in sufficient quantities, allowed the warriors to transform into an even more powerful version of themselves.
The originality of the gameplay, the varied cast of characters and the excellent audiovisual creation have made Power Stone one of the most interesting fighting games on Dreamcast, the console which also hosted the sequel in 2000 Power Stone 2, even richer and more compelling than its already excellent predecessor. However, the series did not meet with great success, with Capcom gradually stopping focusing on the brand. In 2006 there was the last gasp of the franchise with the release on PSP of Power Stone Collection, a collection including both chapters re-proposed in an updated technical format: it is the last act of the appreciated brand, which was then put aside and thus ended up forgotten. Power Stone is not even present among the games in the Capcom Fighting Collection aimed at celebrating the history of the Japanese company's fighting games.
It must be said that there are many forgotten Capcom series that we would like to see again, and among the many names that come to mind we can easily add Power Stone. Who knows if we will ever see him in action again.
