When turning on your PlayStation 5 today, you may have been prompted to update your console's firmware. If you're wondering what's new in this update, you've come to the right place!
Please note that if you are participating in Sony's beta program, you should have received these new features during the month of February.
Improved audio on the DualSense
The PS5 controller is also updating and improving. The DualSense's speaker now plays at a higher volume than before, making sounds coming through the tiny holes between the two joysticks more intelligible. If this bothers you, it is of course always possible to adjust the volume of the controller's audio output from the control center.
The microphone also improves in quality since Sony has improved its AI noise reduction algorithm. There should therefore be less parasitic background noise, particularly with regard to clicking buttons.
Improved screen sharing
Do you like to share your screen with your friends when you play to get help? With this update, people watching a game in full screen gain more control.
As a spectator, it becomes possible to control a pointer to indicate a specific location on the screen, send a ping to the player, or even draw a line or react in the form of an emoji. So many elements that can be very practical when used sparingly, or totally infernal if abused. Fortunately, the game host can choose to disable this feature at will.
Console LED Adjustment
When you turn on your PlayStation 5, a power LED tells you that the console is running. If you regularly play at night and it bothers you, we have good news for you!
In the system settings (Settings > System > Sound and light signal), a “Brightness” menu allows you to adjust the power of this diode. Three settings are available: Dim (subdued), Medium or Bright (bright).
As always, we strongly advise you to keep your console up to date and therefore download and install this new firmware.
