Hasbro has awarded the wand of the license to Gameloft, creators of Disney Dreamlight Valley and LEGO Star Wars Castawaysso that they have the opportunity to shape a video game of Dungeons & Dragons. The legendary fantasy franchise will receive a new adaptation for consoles and PC by the Montreal developer.
Although a release date has not been revealed, the adventure in the Forgotten Realms will not be able to combine different genres in the same virtual space. The studio indicates that its next work will feature “unique cooperative gameplay built around an innovative hybrid of survival, life simulation and action RPG“.
A good mix with which we can expect all kinds of mechanics and a significant dose of lore from the saga for a really deep campaign. This is how Marc-Andre Deslongchamps, creative director of Gameloft Montreal, talks about the production they are working on:
“Making friends, both on and off the table, has always been a core value of Dungeons & Dragons and it is our goal, as lifelong fans, to bring this experience to a different genre recognized for its emergent gameplay and shared narrative that can be enjoyed by newcomers and Game Masters alike.”
The truth is that it seems that Wizards of the Coast is sweet, since it has up to 40 video games underway related to its brands. “Our IP portfolio, including Dungeons & Dragons, continues to attract incredible partners as we execute our plan to grow our digital games portfolio through licensing and internal development,” said Eugene Evans, SVP of digital strategy and licensing at Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro
