Intel announced that several more games have received support for the Application Optimization (APO) feature. Intel APO is a driver-level feature that automatically identifies software and its needs, and allocates CPU resources in real time to optimize application performance.
Previously, only two games officially supported the Intel APO function – Metro Exodus and Rainbow Six Siege. Intel today announced that APO support has been extended to games such as Final Fantasy XIV, Red Dead Redemption 2, World of Tanks, Dreams Three Kingdoms 2 (PRC), F1 22, Guardians of the Galaxy, Serious Sam 4 (VLK), Strange Brigade (VLK), Watch Dog Legion, World War Z, Dirt 5 and World of Warcraft.
Intel APO is a dedicated software tool that allows you to turn performance enhancements on or off on a game-by-game basis. Intel previously said that APO was an exclusive feature for higher-end Raptor Lake Refresh (14th Gen Core) processors, but the product page now states that APO is supported on mobile and desktop Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 processors. Moreover, it should work not only with Raptor Lake Refresh chips, but also with Raptor Lake (13th generation Core) and Alder Lake (12th generation Core). However, Intel does not guarantee that in this case it will work as efficiently as with 14th generation Intel Core processors. The following processors have full official support for Intel APO: Core i9-14900KS, Core i9-14900K, Core i9-14900KF, Core i9-14900HX, Core i7-14700K, Core i7-14700KF and Core i7-14700HX.
For previous generation chips, you must enable Advanced Mode in the Intel APO settings. In addition, you will need to install the Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (Intel DTT) application, which can be found in the corresponding section of the motherboard manufacturer's website. The company explains that the Advanced Mode in Intel APO settings not only enables support for the feature on previous generations of chips, but also allows it to be used with games that have not yet been officially verified for compatibility.
“Enhanced Mode allows users to see additional games that have not been tested for performance improvements by Intel. This means that neither the processor nor the specific system configuration has been tested (for compatibility), so end results may vary, including potential performance degradation,” Intel says on its website.
