Microsoft has significantly improved the performance and capabilities of its Copilot chatbot. All free Copilot users can now access OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo Large Language Model (LLM). Previously, access to GPT-4 Turbo was only available through the purchase of a $20 per month Microsoft Copilot Pro subscription.
Today, Microsoft's head of advertising and web services, Mikhail Parakhin, announced that “after much work,” GPT-4 Turbo is now available to free Copilot users. He noted that Copilot Pro subscribers who prefer the older version of LLM GPT-4 in Copilot can switch to that model by selecting the appropriate option in the menu.
Microsoft's generative AI partner OpenAI first announced GPT-4 Turbo in November 2023. The “Turbo version” offers users access to a much larger context window of 128 thousand characters, which brings the text help volume to 300 pages. ChatGPT-4 Turbo support came to Copilot Pro in December.
This week has been a very important one for the Copilot team. On Monday, Microsoft confirmed that all Copilot Pro users can now access Copilot GPT Builder. The new tool allows you, without programming skills, to create your own chat bots, “tailored” to answer specific questions on target topics. Copilot Pro subscribers will be able to provide unlimited access to their chatbots to anyone, regardless of device or whether they have a Copilot Pro account.
A recent leak of some promotional material from Samsung indicates that even more new Copilot features are coming soon, including improved integration with the Microsoft Phone Link app on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
