When Star Wars: Outlaws goes on sale this year, DLSS 3, ray tracing and Reflex will also be on board, Nvidia confirms. This means that the title is likely to become one of the “RTX on” flagship games and could ultimately be loaded as a bundle with Geforce cards, which is currently just speculation. “At Massive Entertainment, world-building is an integral part of our DNA, and what better way to showcase our craft than to create the first open-world Star Wars game. Filled with unique locations in the Outer Rim of the galaxy, both iconic and new, players can experience the Star Wars underworld like never before. DLSS 3 gives us the performance margin to bring our vision to life and support additional ray tracing features so players can fully immerse themselves in the adventures of Kay Vess and Nix,” said Tobias Carlsson, Technical Director.

Great resolution and frame generation
The announcement underlines that Star Wars: Outlaws was optimized in cooperation with Nvidia. DLSS 3 will be available from release – including frame generation on a Geforce RTX 40 graphics card and Super Resolution for all RTX models. DLSS 3 combines DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation to reconstruct 7 out of 8 displayed pixels. In this way – to put it simply – more frames can be achieved than the hardware would be able to calculate natively.
Direct illumination and RT shadows
The hope is that the now optimized Snowdrop engine used by Massive for Star Wars: Outlaws will continue to support the full Nvidia feature set in future projects. As part of the collaboration, the game on the PC will also be improved with Nvidia RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) and ray-traced global illumination lighting.
“RTXDI determines the key light patterns in Star Wars Outlaws to cast physically correct ray-traced shadows. Thanks to RTXDI's innovative design, performance remains fast, and on the Geforce RTX 40 series graphics cards, ray tracing is achieved thanks to the super-fast Fourth-generation ray tracing cores make every card even faster.”
