Today, the lineup of 14th generation Intel Core processors has officially been supplemented with the Core i9-14900KS chip. It is the top solution for the LGA1700 platform and will be available for purchase today at a recommended price of $689. Intel is proud to call the new product the world's fastest desktop processor.
The specifications of the Core i9-14900KS are not a secret to our regular readers. This is a selected version of the Core i9-14900K with increased clock speeds. In Thermal Velocity Boost mode, two P-cores will be able to reach the 6.2 GHz mark, and the maximum for E-cores is 4.5 GHz (versus 6.0 and 4.4 GHz for its predecessor).
Along with the clock frequencies, the new product's Processor Base Power indicator will increase – from 125 to 150 W. Otherwise, the Core i9-14900KS is the same as its predecessor, offering 24 cores/32 threads, 36 MB of L3 cache, UHD Graphics 770 graphics and a DDR4-3200/DDR5-5600 memory controller. It can be used together with boards based on the Z690 and Z790 chipsets.
As independent tests show, the Intel Core i9-14900KS offers a slight increase in performance relative to the Core i9-14900K, but the new product cannot be unconditionally called the fastest processor for desktops. In many tests, it is inferior to the top-end Ryzen 7000 series chips, and the title of the best processor for gamers still belongs to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. However, some PC enthusiasts will probably be interested in the Core i9-14900KS.
