Perhaps this will help find the source of the problem.
NASA engineers trying to restore communications with the Voyager 1 probe have reported little success. On March 1, a command was sent to the probe, as a result of which Voyager 1 sent new data to Earth.
The probe has been sending back to Earth a meaningless collection of zeros and ones for several months now; it is assumed that Voyager 1 experienced some kind of malfunction related to the on-board computer. With the help of the March team, NASA asked the probe to try sending other sets of data back to Earth.
After deciphering the information received, it turned out that the probe sent to Earth a memory dump of one of the onboard computers: it is responsible for communication with the Earth. NASA hopes that analysis of the dump will make it possible to understand what is preventing Voyager 1 from exchanging information with Earth.
Now NASA engineers are analyzing the data obtained. The agency did not say when it plans to complete studying the memory dump and send the next command to the probe.
Voyager 1 is now over 24 billion kilometers from Earth, the furthest human-launched spacecraft from the planet. Data exchange with the probe takes more than 48 hours.
