According to a new rumor, Apple is preparing to enter the smart ring race. The Eletronic Times website is saying that the company is paying attention to this market segment and is looking for a less intrusive alternative than a smartwatch, which can be used for longer and with greater comfort.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg agency journalist Mark Gurman has already provided more information about the company's potential Smart Ring. The journalist says that the new device can function as an alternative to the Apple Watch, offering a more affordable cost.
The well-known journalist also says that Apple's industrial design team has already presented to the company's management a smart ring project “focused on health and fitness features” and that can be paired with the iPhone for data synchronization.
But Mark Gurman is also of the opinion that, at this time, Apple is not actively working on this project for a near-term release. Even though Tim Cook's company is now registering patents that appear to be aimed at this product and related to NFC contactless payment technology.
Even if the entry into the smart rings market happens later than would be desirable, it is almost certain that Apple will also launch a device under its own name.
Samsung is also ahead of Apple in the smart ring market
Unlike Apple, Samsung is already quite advanced and will launch its first smart ring on the market this year. The Galaxy Ring has already been the subject of two presentations, one at the Unpacked event in January when it was announced and another at the Mobile World Congress, where it can be seen, in its physical format, for the first time.
Recent rumors suggest that the brand will begin mass production of the device in May and that it intends to make around 400,000 units available initially.
It is said that the model will have autonomy for nine days of operation and that it has several features aimed at sports, as well as health, which may even include detection of sleep apnea symptoms.
