Stay with these words: the X-Men are Marvel's new spearhead, and in 2024 they return in a big way. The legendary 90s series returns where it left off while Deadpool will bring Wolverine by the ears in his next movie. And what happens in the comics? That's where things are going to get really interesting: X-Men from the Ashes will be the big summer event and, at the same time, the great mutant reset from The House of Ideas.
The premise is really simple: the Krakoa era is over. Caput! And not only that, they are retiring the plaque from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Bad times for mutants in this Marvel universe, but a great breeding ground to create new stories that will be woven through three great series that will serve as a pillar for this rebirth of the X-Men plus at least half a dozen new adventures that will begin to be published in summer based on their most iconic characters and formations.
The first is the first: X-Men from the Ashes will begin to be published next July through three series dedicated to rethinking this new stage of the X-Men and on which Marvel's entire immediate initiative will revolve from three different perspectives on which the future of mutants will be addressed in the comics. The idea: let the most popular ones shine in one, let the themes and conflicts advance in another and, through the third, make room for new characters.
Simply titled X-Men, the first series will be read on July 10, 2024 with a script by Jed MacKay and art by Ryan Stegman. The premise focuses on the reconstruction of the X-Men and Charles Xavier's dream of a new base in Alaska where Cyclops, Magneto, Beast and other main characters will settle.
On August 7, the new series of Uncanny X-Men, with a plot by Gail Simone and David Marquez with pencils. Preserving the more adventurous aspect of mutants by following the raids of those who are, in all likelihood, readers' favorites: Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee and Nightcrawler while protecting the planet.
Exceptional X-Men rounds off the initiative starting September 4, showing us how a Kate Pryde who has remained on the sidelines takes responsibility from Chicago for three promising, although inexperienced mutants: Bronze, Axo and Melee. Of course, among so many new faces, a familiar face: Emma Frost. It will be written by Eve L. Ewing and drawn by Carmen Carnero.
These three series are the advance of the great project dedicated to the X-Men, but also the central gears of X-Men from the Ashes on which the rest of the collections in which there is a mutant presence will orbit. For now, starting this summer we will see how Storm, Wolverine, Nyx and Fénix return to lead their own solo publications, as well as the return of X-Factor, X-Force. And what's better: Marvel has already let it slip that it is gaining momentum for what is to come.
The rebirth of the X-Men From the Ashes will be a key piece of this new editorial stage for Marvel, as well as a great summer event in front of Absolute Power from DC comics. Although not the only initiative that we will see throughout this year. In any case, we are facing a new mutant renaissance that, with luck and talent, will return them to that front line, reviving the phenomenon with the same intensity as in the 90s. Another new genesis? The steps to make that happen are already being taken.
