Apple is expected to launch the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses in 12 more countries soon and China is among them. However, the Cupertino manufacturer continues to face difficulties with the device's commercial name.
This is because Huawei has owned the “Vision Pro” brand in the country since 2021, and the company's patent even covers wearable devices such as Apple glasses.
According to the South China Morning Post, the Apple did not seek to negotiate with Huawei the use of the name, but went straight to the trademark body (CNIPA) in search of using the “Apple Vision Pro” nomenclature.
As a result, Chinese authorities have looked into the case and are apparently going to deny Apple's request.
When consulting Apple's process in the CNIPA systems, the status of the request is “refusal to re-examine”. Furthermore, the process continues to be analyzed by the Chinese authorities, but there is not much hope for a quick release.
As a result, Apple may be forced to launch its glasses in China under a different name until the bureaucratic procedures are completed with the CNIPA. This is because there is great uncertainty at the moment.
For now, Apple and Huawei are not commenting on the matter, but market analysts say that everything can be resolved in direct negotiation between the companies.
However, no one knows if Tim Cook is willing to get together and buy the brand from the Chinese.
