Announced for 2025, the highly anticipated affordable Tesla Model 2 might actually need a little more time. Production should in fact ramp up from 2027 for the electric compact priced at less than 25,000 euros promised by Elon Musk. But it should be available from 2025.

Now world number 2 in electric behind BYD, Tesla has absolutely no intention of letting this happen. It is in this context that the firm, which recently suffered an act of vandalism in its Berlin factory, recently unveiled its restyled Model 3, but not only that.
A highly anticipated Tesla Model 2
In fact, the American manufacturer wants flood the market with electric cars, and counts on very low prices for this. This is how its Model 3 and Model Y have undergone several price reductions in recent years. But Tesla wants to go further, while its Chinese rival plans an even more intense price war in the future. It is in this context that the Model 2 should see the light of day.
The compact, promised for a long time by Elon Musk, is however slow in arriving. Last December, the businessman gave his news, indicating that it would soon be produced in the United States as well as Mexico. A few days later, we learned that the Mexican government had given its approval for the construction of a new factory. The one that will host the manufacturing of the compact.
In January, a launch date was finally announced for the latter: 2025. But ultimately we will have to be a little more patient before being able to take the wheel of this new arrival, announced below 25,000 euross. In any case, this is what the Fortune site explains. The latter was able to speak with an analyst from the American company Evercore about the highly anticipated affordable car from Tesla.
If its production should start well from 2025, we should not expect a very sustained pace from the start, quite the contrary. And for good reason, specialists are counting on production turning around 500,000 units in 2026, and not a million as had once been mentioned. The pace should accelerate over time, gradually.
The car would cost between $20,000 to $28,000 to produce depending on the options and versions. It should do without the panoramic roof to reduce costs. It could also omit Autopilot as standard, to save $2,000 to $3,000, and offer it as a paid option.
An American production
If the affordable compact should be produced in Mexico, in order to reduce manufacturing costs, the latter should first begin in the United States. And more precisely within the Gigafactory located in Austin, Texas. We do not yet know at the moment whether assembly is also planned in Europe, since the German factory only produces the Tesla Model Y at the moment. This would allow the Model 2 to be eligible for the ecological bonus in France.
For the moment, we still know very little about this new arrival, which should benefit from the Gigacasting method to reduce its production costs. This should display a range of around 250 miles, which is equivalent to approximately 400 kilometers. Enough to reassure motorists, who want at least this value to feel reassured. The compact will use 4680 batteries that are cheaper to produce and offer greater density than those currently used at Tesla.

It is also rumored that it will have an 800 volt architecture, which will reduce charging time. It should also use certain technologies inaugurated on the Cybertruck, such as 48 volt low voltage. This allows less copper to be used, and therefore bring costs down a little further more. Enough to maximize the margin, while this car is intended to flood the market.
This newcomer should chase away the BYD Seagull and other Dacia Spring, not to mention the Citroën ë-C3 and the Renault 5 E-Tech.
