Over the past decade, Oppo has dedicated itself to “perfecting the relationship between speed, stability and fluidity”. The experience culminated in the development of ColorOS, its operating system running on top of Android. Ten years after its launch, it's time to remember where ColorOS came from and realize what the future will be like.
The big change began with the introduction of UI First in 2020. It gave priority to active applications and reduced resource consumption by background apps. The quest for “invisible” smoothness led Oppo to optimize ColorOS for better temperature management, more stable battery life and a seamless experience.
Trinity Engine is the engine in ColorOS 14
With ColorOS 14, Trinity Engine technology allows for better management. It is capable of supporting up to 28 applications in the background for 72 hours for better performance. Still, the continued evolution of ColorOS has revealed a fundamental truth: high performance and maximum speed do not necessarily guarantee a comfortable and smooth experience in all contexts.
The introduction of Human Factors Analysis into the operating system design reflected this understanding. Research has revealed that the human eye only detects significant changes in intervals of 100-150 milliseconds. Therefore, adjusting response times to less than 100 milliseconds, despite the hardware's capabilities, becomes unnecessary.
This discovery led Oppo to conduct millions of tests to identify and correct inconsistencies in areas such as haptic feedback and screen lag. The result is a user experience with consistent response times, with fluid interaction and no noticeable fluctuations.
With two decades of experience in Artificial Intelligence, Oppo explores how this technology can support the optimization of your devices. ColorOS 14 incorporates the Trinity Engine, an approach that enhances system smoothness and stability. This system encompasses ROM Vitalization, RAM Vitalization and CPU Vitalization. This optimizes memory management, application startup speed and power resource allocation, respectively.
Trinity Engine frees up more storage space and speeds up app launches and adjusts power consumption to balance performance with energy efficiency. This synergy between hardware and software guarantees a smoother user experience, with the promise of maintaining fluidity for up to 48 months.
Oppo has more than 600 million active monthly ColorOS users.
