Yes we know that siete in hype per Dragon Ball Sparking Zerobut not all Dragon Ball games had a very powerful aura: the one inspired by the live action film, for example, was a real nightmare…
While fans await the release of the game in Unreal Engine 5, heir to Budokai Tenkaichi, we want to focus on the history of what is considered by most to be the worst title linked to the world of the late Akira Toriyama.
We're talking about the Dragon Ball Evolution tie-inthe infamous live action film that in no way did justice to its source material. Released in 2009 on PlayStation Portablehas often been defined as the worst game on the PSP but also, a disaster in UMD format
On the surface they might seem like terrible statements, but is it really so? For starters, pressing an attack button repeatedly without doing anything else was enough to beat enemies in story mode, due to deficient artificial intelligence. Equipped with the inevitable special moves, the fighters fought at a fast pace, but the action sometimes became confusing.
The warrior animations they looked a lot like the ones seen in the Shin Budokai gamesAfter all, the development team was the same, but the problem was precisely the appearance of the protagonists. Furthermore, the game reproduced the scenarios, the unlikely hairstyles and the terrible costumes of the live action film with some attention, and this is why it failed to satisfy Dragon Ball fans on a visual front.
The dialogues between the characters – or rather, between their static and inexpressive images – were only in textual form and the accompanying music was completely incapable of arousing the sensation of being in the universe of Goku and co. The situation was made worse by the limited number of modes available and, for reasons of fidelity to the film, an absolutely bare-bones roster, with just 11 fighters in attendance. If nothing else, among these there was also Bulma, who could put the most difficult enemies in difficulty in Arcade Mode with her capsules, containing motorcycles or… teddy bears.
To his melee attacks he added the volleys of projectiles with the double pistols, while the unlikely Goku in the Great Ape version he threw large rocks at his opponents. We could talk for a long time about all the flaws in Dragon Ball Evolution, but we believe that the reasons that make it a product to stay away from are already quite clear.
