Microsoft has also released the AI assistant Copilot for Windows 10 in order to simplify workflows. Users who would rather do without AI currently have to bite the bullet, because Copilot cannot currently be uninstalled, as is the case with Windows 11, as the Redmond company has now confirmed.
Windows 10: AI assistant is to be integrated and longer support is to be discussed
Microsoft is said to be introducing its AI assistant Microsoft Copilot under Windows 10 and is discussing longer support for the operating system internally.
Copilot was released in preview for Windows 10 22H2 on November 30, 2023, following the AI assistant's previous introduction in Windows 11. In the meantime, Microsoft has finally integrated its artificial intelligence into Windows 10, which not all users like. Many users also stuck with the “old” operating system from Redmond because they thought they didn’t have to keep up with innovations like the AI Copilot. The hope of a complete uninstallation remained, which is now being destroyed. The assistance system is not designed to be uninstalled.
While we don't currently support uninstalling Copilot, you can right-click on the Copilot icon and unpin it so that it doesn't always appear on the taskbar in the future [von Windows 10] is shown.

This means that users currently only have the option to remove the Copilot icon from the Windows 10 taskbar. But even after hiding, the assistant remains active in the background of the system and can be called up at any time with the key combination “Windows + C”, as Windows Latest reports. Users who want more have to dig deeper into the system.
Group policies and registry help
If you really want to ban the Copilot from Windows 10, you can't avoid the appropriate group policies and the registry and have to do it yourself. The registry must go to the following location in the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER can be navigated:
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
A new DWORT value (32-bit) must be created here, which must then be assigned the value “0”. After a reboot, both the copilot and the assistant notifications via the message center should be completely disabled. The key combination “Windows + C” is then also deactivated.

The Copilot can also be deactivated completely via group policies. To do this, users must open the following path:
Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Windows Copilot
Here the copilot can be deactivated accordingly and should finally be history after a restart.
