Although the first film has not had the expected success, Zack Snyder has big plans to expand the universe of Rebel Moon. The American director is eager to release more films and series related to the saga, although the final decision is not in his hands.
In an interview with the American magazine SFX, Snyder spoke at length about his new saga, expressing his desire to release both films together and then release the famous Snyder Cut. Furthermore, he explained that, if Netflix gives the go-ahead, his intention with Rebel Moon is to create a cinematographic universe so broad that it has to pass the baton to future directors interested in the franchise.
“I think in an ideal world, we would certainly have a longer arc for this giant universe, and then at that point I'd be happy to pass it on to someone else. If we were to go ahead and make more movies, we'd know the point. The fact so we know where it's going [la saga] allows us to ensure that other stories [de otros escritores y en otros formatos] end up being consistent [con su mundo]”.
Snyder also stated in the interview that, regardless of the future of the saga, he will continue to maintain his own style until the end of his career. He made it clear that he prefers to pursue projects that satisfy him personally rather than follow strict contractual guidelines imposed by studios to ensure a film's relative success.
However, before venturing into the future, Zack has his eyes set on his next film, Rebel Moon Part 2: The warrior who leaves marks, which will arrive on Netflix on April 19. This film will mark a turning point in the saga, since its continuation will depend on the reception of critics and the audience, which will determine whether the platform will continue to trust the director for future projects.
