It might come as a surprise to many, but it has now been 23 years since the first film in the “Harry Potter” series was released. Since then, the franchise has had a total of eight main films and three spin-offs and even a major HBO series is planned. Many who spent their childhood in the magical world of Harry and his friends are now adults. And still often very connected to the “Wizarding World”. But now one of the actresses from the films is causing discontent among fans: She thinks that as an adult fan of “Harry Potter” you have lost control of your life!
“It's been 25 years and it's for children”
Who hasn't wished as a child to receive a letter from Hogwarts or to be picked up from Platform 9 3/4 with all their belongings? Many enjoyed the “Harry Potter” books and the film adaptation of the series as children. And often continue to do so in adulthood. For many fans, the annual rewatch of the films or one or two rounds of “real-life Quidditch” are part of it.
And some even go so far as to celebrate their wedding in the style of the magical world of “Harry Potter”. The video game “Hogwarts Legacy,” released last year, was also a complete success. And although the author of the book series, JK Rowling, repeatedly attracts negative attention with controversial statements, millions of fans remain loyal to the series.
Actress Miriam Margolyes, who plays the herbal witch Pomona Sprout in the films, has now worked on exactly these fans. In an interview with New Zealand television station 1News, she commented on the phenomenon of adult Potterheads, saying: “They should be over it by now. You know, I mean, it's been 25 years, and it's for kids. I think it is for children”.

Actress works on “Harry Potter” fans
For this reason, the 82-year-old actress has little understanding for adult fans of “Harry Potter.” For example, when she hears about weddings and themed parties from the magical world, she thinks to herself: “My goodness, what will the first evening of fun be like? I really can't imagine that. No.”
The British-Australian actress has often made similar statements. Overall, her image of the “Harry Potter” series doesn’t seem to be a positive one. She said just last year that the series was significantly less important to her than to the fans. “'Harry Potter' was never important to me. I was very happy that I got the role (…), but it's just not Charles Dickens.”

The aging actress has little to gain from the entire fandom surrounding “Harry Potter” and considers the films and books to be children’s stuff. It should be clear that real Potterheads are reluctant to hear such statements. And the success of the game “Hogwarts Legacy,” which was only released last year, also proves the fans right. Because it certainly wasn't just played by children, although there is now also a version for the Nintendo Switch.
