After Acer announced new models under the Predator and Nitro banner for the Radeon graphics cards RX 7800 XT, 7700 XT and 7600 XT at CES 2024, the series mentioned will be expanded. Without much announcement, the manufacturer's website contains corresponding custom GPUs for the Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition), which Acer praises as the “first choice for 1440p gaming”.
Upgrading to Radeon RX 7900 GRE: Who is it worth it for?
When it comes to clock speeds, Acer uses a slight overclocking of nine and seven percent respectively for both the Predator Bifrost RX 7900 GRE and the Nitro RX 7900 GRE compared to the AMD reference. The base clock is specified as up to 2,050 MHz, and the boost clock should increase to up to 2,395 MHz. In contrast, the RX 7900 GRE can “regularly” access 1,880 or 2,245 MHz. The GPU controversy of the past few months is being solved by the golden rabbit among AMD graphics cards with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, which are connected via a 256-bit interface and can rely on a transfer rate of 18 GT/s.
The cooling concept of the two graphics cards is probably based on the respective RX-7800-XT variants. The Predator Bifrost RX 7900 GRE uses three “FrostBlade 3.0” fans, while the Nitro version is equipped with two classic axial fans. However, temperature values, power consumption or dimensions of the custom GPU are currently unknown, as is a possible release date and the associated recommended retail price (RRP).
