New Blood has not been in the media spotlight for years: after the announcement of the arrival of Dusk on Nintendo Switch in 2020, very little has been said about the company in question. However, what caught the industry's attention were the team leader's recent statements: “working for big studios ruins the pleasure of playing video games“.
All this was stated in an interview with the editorial staff of the well-known PC Gamer portal, during which there was the opportunity to talk about the system that now characterizes the video game industry. In his criticism of the production of titles that only serve the interests of the market, studio head Dave Oshry states the following: “we don't actually hate money; money is great, but if we wanted it we'd make a survival horror crafting game a la Dusk. An open world survival horror roguelike creating deck builder”. It is with this veiled criticism of the gaming industry that the New Blood exponent stated that he cares that “everyone is happy and has fun” in New Blood.
“People often ask me, 'Dave, if I want to enter the world of video games, how can I start?'. And I say don't do it. You should have started five or ten years ago […]. Get a real job“. The studio head goes on to state the following: “You don't want to be employee number 356772 who reports to someone who reports to someone who reports to someone who makes decisions. He's disgusting. The magic is gone.”
So, according to the New Blood exponent the real problem lies in the lack of fun in creating video games with a logic that, according to him, would also discourage passion for the reference medium. What do you think of these heavy words? Do you believe there is any truth in what was stated during the interview mentioned above?
