A new attempt to get Schwarzenegger back into the ring with a Predator movie, although the role they offered him was insufficient.
Arnold Schwarzenegger He still has some energy for a while, but it seems not for the Predator license.
We all enjoyed the first Predator (1987), that fear within the jungle, where a series of elite soldiers are left with practically nothing in their confrontation with a fearsome being. There good old Arnold appears to survive in one of his most memorable roles.
After that original film, many others have been seen with a license that has been extinguished since then, although they became clear with the release of The Dam in 2022, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, and with a sequel on the way.
But in 2018's Predator, when an attempt was made to resurrect the license, Arnold Schwarzenegger was invited back into the ring, albeit with a minor role.
In Predator 2018 we have a group of soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who are involved in the fight against two alien predators.
And as the screenwriter Frank Dekker told in his time, They tried to get Schwarzenegger to appear in a cameobut the actor found it insufficient, something they saw as logical.
“We really wanted him in the movie, but what we had written was a cameo that would have turned into a major role in any sequel. He decided that it wasn't enough of a role and that no one was willing to invest money in the possibility of a sequel. He would be taking a pay cut. He would have said: 'come with me if you want to live'.”
Schwarzenegger politely ruled out participating in this project, something logical in view of his enormous cachet in Hollywood and the small cameo that had been reserved for him.
“He said, 'Well, if more showed up, yes, but what you're suggesting is that you're creating something new and just using me to bless it.' And then [dije]erm… yes. That's why I wasn't surprised when she told me: 'Look, I wish you luck, but that's too small a role for me.'”
In this way, although it is not completely ruled out that the new installment of Dan Trachtenberg's The Dam will have an appearance by Schwarzenegger, it could be said that the license will have to follow its path alone.
