Game of the year 2022, Elden Ring has never really been out of the news. Beyond its massive upcoming expansion, the title continues to attract players, while the most popular renew their experience by giving themselves challenges and/or adding mods modifying progression. But no matter which approach you choose, Elden Ring remains unforgiving.
Elden Ring: two years after its release, the title still appeals to players
Launched in February 2022, Elden Ring was able to surprise. Players have found the From Software formula with vast environments, creatures as varied as they are dangerous, and mysterious characters launching us into quests that are sometimes cryptic but rich in narration. However, Elden Ring is very different from Souls, since we abandon a vast but relatively closed world for the benefit of an open world in which we can freely evolve. It's up to us to choose the area we explore, it's up to us to decide if this monster or boss is worth it or if we decide to look elsewhere. This freedom offered can be destabilizing, especially since the title still does not have a well-defined quest log, and the play area is gigantic.
In any case, many players have already looked around the proposition several times, and are looking for a way to still enjoy the game while waiting to discover the expansion Shadow of the Erdtree. Some go through speedrunning, others use mods to modify the appearance, the level of equipment, or add randomness. This last point is called randomization, and several modes allow you to try it. From changing the position of bosses and enemies to the random appearance of equipment and objects, everything is possible and adjustable, and renews the experience with each attempt.

Even natural needs can cause death
But sometimes this addition of randomness can totally ruin a part. Recently, and as reported by GamesRadar, an Elden Ring player saw his session abruptly end while he tried to complete the game with a “randomizer” and with the difficulty of permanent death. On Twitch, Elajjaz was progressing well, notably avoiding running into Malénia in the first moments of the game. While he was at the 11th hour of play on his 14th attempt, he needed to go to the toilet. In order to avoid any unpleasant surprises, he went to the Round Table, a central place outside the game space full of important NPCs where, in general, you can wisely leave your character.
Unfortunately for Elajjaz, the worst happened. While he was away, two NPCs invaded his game and what was supposed to happen happened. Viewers watched helplessly as the streamer's character died, flooding the chat hoping that the streamer would come back quickly. Aware of what could happen, Elajjaz hurried but it was already too late. In such a situation, many players would have left the game and ended the game, especially after 14 attempts. Not destabilized for a penny, Elajjaz simply took it upon himself and immediately restarted a game. However, there is little chance that he will return to the toilet without having carefully checked the break area. For our part, let's remember that Shadow of the Erdtree was recently revealed through a long trailer, and that the release of the extension is scheduled for June 21, 2024.
