Qualcomm has a new cutting-edge chipset, but it may be cheaper for the end consumer. This Monday (18), the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was presented and has a clear focus: serving a demanding audience, but without charging as much as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The proposal of the new chipset is to offer premium experiences, just like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but below this highest market range. The company even mentions the creation of “a new segment” in this category of advanced models.
In practice, it is above the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but below the 8 Gen 3. The expectation, according to Qualcomm, is that it will serve cell phones costing between US$500 (around R$2,400) and US$800 (R$3,900).
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset should serve high-end cell phones, but cheaper than those that use the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
In the technical sheet, we have a chipset with an eight-core Kryo CPU:
1 main core: up to 3.0GHz 3.4GHz
4 performance cores: 2,8 GHz 3,2 GHz
3 efficiency cores: 2,0 GHz 2,3 GHz
For comparison purposes, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a main core of up to 3.4 GHz, 5 performance cores of up to 3.2 GHz and two efficiency cores with a clock speed of up to 2.3 GHz.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 also brings AI
The company is also betting heavily on the push for artificial intelligence (AI) through the chipset. The new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports large language models (LLMs) with up to 10 billion parameters, such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2 and Gemini Nano, which should bring more AI capabilities to mobile devices .
Among the capabilities, cell phones compatible with the 8s Gen 3 will be able to take better photographs in low-light scenarios; have AI image generation capabilities; in addition to bringing AI-based virtual assistants.
AI-based virtual assistants should run smoothly on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
The new chipset also features the X70 5G modem, with the FastConnect 7800 chip compatible with Wi-Fi 7, supports cameras up to 200 MP and features a triple 18-bit image signal processor (ISP).
It also has improvements for games. Qualcomm reinforces that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 comes with real-time ray tracing acceleration to increase the level of realism in compatible titles. Additionally, it is compatible with Quad HD+ resolution screens with up to 144 Hz refresh rate.
