As a result, the second Dune was still released before the game appeared.
In the Dune Awakening survival game, players may encounter sandworms, but they won't be able to ride one in person—at least not yet. As Dune Awakening development lead Joel Bylos explains, the decision to abandon managed worms was not made by the developers.
According to Bilos, this demand was made by the film company Legendary Pictures, which produces films based on Dune. Thus, Legendary wanted to make sure that the game would not become a kind of competitor to Dune 2.
And here's another story
In the first film, they didn't talk too much about Fremen culture and worm riding. Dune Awakening was originally intended to release before Dune 2, which explores these themes in much more detail, and Legendary intended to keep that priority.
As a result, everything did not go as planned: the release of Dune Awakening was delayed and the game will be released after the premiere of Dune 2. Now the developers will have to add sandworm riding in one of the post-release updates.
According to Bylos, one of the patches will add various aspects of Fremen culture to Dune Awakening. The development manager did not specify when this update might be released.
Dune Awakening is being developed for PC and consoles, the game does not yet have a release date.
