MediaTek announced, this Tuesday (19), the launch of new platforms for smart cars developed in partnership with NVIDIA. The hardware is part of the Dimensity Auto Cockpit family, and should enable new experiences for information and entertainment in vehicles with high performance in graphics and AI.
Four processors were announced by the manufacturers: CX-1, CY-1, CM-1 and CV-1. The chips feature a CPU based on the ARMv9-A architecture and NVIDIA's latest generation GPU, as well as high-performance neural computing so the cars are capable of performing artificial intelligence functions without relying on the cloud.
The manufacturer claims that artificial intelligence transforms the automotive market in the same way it revolutionized the smartphone market — an area in which it is gaining more and more prominence thanks to the optimization of its chips for AI models.
The new processors in the Dimensity Auto Cockpit family are AI-enabled, enabling vehicles to support chatbots, rich content delivery to multiple displays, driver alert detection, and other AI-based safety and entertainment applications.

And speaking of entertainment, the graphics unit of these chips is based on NVIDIA's RTX technology, natively supporting ray tracing for realistic visuals in games, upscaling with artificial intelligence and frame generation through DLSS 3. The GPU also supports multiple screens, ensuring entertainment for multiple passengers.
There is also an image signal processor (ISP) that supports front, cabin and panoramic cameras simultaneously for a wide variety of driving safety applications. Additionally, the integrated audio processor supports voice assistants so the driver can obtain information without taking their attention off the road.
The chips are manufactured with 3 nanometer class lithography support NVIDIA's DRIVE OS, the benchmark operating system that allows automakers to adapt platforms for a variety of segments, ranging from entry-level cars (with the CV-1) to the most luxurious models (with the CX-1 ).
MediaTek's new solutions developed in partnership with NVIDIA — the market leader in AI hardware — are a direct response to Qualcomm and Samsung's smart car platforms. Furthermore, the Taiwanese manufacturer moves ahead of Tesla with the launch of the CX-1, CY-1, CM-1 and CV-1 with 3 nanometer lithography.
MediaTek has not confirmed the expected launch of the first cars equipped with the new Dimensity Auto Cockpit platforms.
