Android has good support for password managers and autofill providers, but this doesn't reach Chrome for Android. Instead, Chrome users must rely on Google's password manager and Chrome's autofill to enter and save credentials. However this will change. So let's look at the feature that Chrome for Android was missing!
The feature that Chrome was missing on Android has arrived!
The well-known user Leopeva64 do X discovered that Chrome for Android now allows you to use other password managers and autofill providers.
The functionality is not available immediately, but Android Police reports that it is possible to activate it. For this you need a Chrome flag (chrome://flags/#enable-autofill-virtual-view-structure).
After activating the feature, you will find it under “Autofill options” in the settings menu. Tap this feature and you will be presented with two options, namely “Default” (Google Password Manager and Chrome Autofill) or “Use other providers”. To use other password managers or autofill providers, you'll need to enable them in your Android phone's settings menu.
Unfortunately, it appears that this feature still needs some more development time. In tests that have already been carried out, it was noticed that third-party password managers do not immediately suggest saved usernames at the beginning, although they suggest passwords without problems.
In other words, it is clear that this functionality is not ready yet. However, this will be a long-awaited addition to Chrome on Android, especially for people who don't want all their eggs in one place or for those who use third-party solutions for work.
This is something that is already possible to do on other platforms. So it's really good that it also arrives on Chrome on Android, albeit later.
