In a new blog post, Blizzard revealed all the details of the limited-time event Plunderstormavailable now in the latest update of World of Warcraft. Plunderstorm is a pirate-themed battle royale mode. Players will have to “find skills, upgrades and loot” to be the last pirate standing in the Arathi Highlands.
Blizzard also released a cinematic trailer for the event: you can see it below.
Each game of Plunderstorm will consist of 60 players and will last approximately 10-15 minutes. Players won't have to purchase an expansion to play the mode, but they will need a World of Warcraft or Game Time subscription.
In today's blog we also talk about “un new Esports tournament to celebrate the launch of Plunderstorm.” The developers have not confirmed when the tournament will take place, but more information is on the way.
How to play Plunderstorm via WoW Classic
Also WoW Classic players can participate in Plunderstorm simply by installing the modern (Live) World of Warcraft client. You just have to:
Launch the Battle.net desktop application. Click on the World of Warcraft icon above. If the icon is not present, click All Games and select the game from the list. Above the Install button is a drop-down menu. Confirm that you want to install World of Warcraft. Click Install.
Once inside in modern WoW:
Select Plunderstorm from the World of Warcraft game menu to spring into action. Create a new game-ready character: Player characters are unique to this event. No prior knowledge of races and classes is required to win. Choose between Solo or, to play with your Battle.net friends, create a party from the Plunderstorm character screen and select Duo. If you are queuing for a Duo without a partner, you will automatically be paired with one of them. You can also access chat, customize characters, and view the queue from the character selection screen.
